Boy (8) shoots dead friend (7)

AN eight-year-old Marange boy shot dead his friend (7) with a home-made rifle last Saturday.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, confirmed the incident which happened at Village 15B, Mt Zuma.

He said the incident happened after Paul Changadzo (56)came back home from Mutandanda Range where he was hunting with a home-made rifle.

“Upon arrival, he headed straight to the cattle kraal to milk his cow. He left the gun hanging on a pole which was near the kraal.

“The now late seven-year-old boy came together with his eight-year-old friend who grabbed the firearm.

“He shot the seven-year-old boy on the right shoulder.

“The bullet went into his ribs and came out on his left buttock. He died on the spot,” said Insp Kakohwa

Changadzo rushed to check upon hearing the gun shot and found the boy lying down dead.

He made a report at Odzi Police Station.

Police attended the scene and recovered the firearm.

In an unrelated incident, a Trip-Trans bus inspector was run over by one of their buses and died on the spot in a tragic accident that occurred along Mutare-Masvingo Highway on Sunday.

Insp Kakohwa said the bus was being driven by Prince Muchena (47) who was Masvingo bound when the accident happened.

When he got to the 67km peg near Wengezi, he stopped to pick up passengers and the late inspector, Langton Chiombererwa (50) disembarked.

As the bus was about to take off, he tried to jump onto the moving bus, but slipped and fell under the bus.

He was run over by the front left wheel and fractured both legs.

He died while being rushed to Mutambara Mission Hospital.

Insp Kakohwa discouraged passengers from the habit of jumping onto moving vehicles, saying they risk losing their lives.
