Brains behind Jam sessions

IF music be the food of love, play on, said William Shakespeare and one upcoming local musician took this saying serious and it paid off. Now,A Yasini Dhala is known as that guy behind a brilliant concept whereby musicians go live and unplugged on stage at selected clubs in Bulawayo and Harare.

The idea at first received a lukewarm response and demoralising criticism. Most musicians and promoters thought the idea of a Jam session wasnat feasible.

Proving Jam session critics wrong, half-way through 2016 the show turned into a success story in Harare.
City Sports Bar in Harare now has a reputation of being the home of Jam Sessions on Mondays.

a?When we began we had little support and most people in the music industry did not approve or understand the idea. Iam glad we didnat give up. Seven months down the line Jam sessions continue to thrive and produce serious artistes,a? said Dhala.

Itas an entertaining challenge for artistes to perform live with instruments. No backtracks at all!

Bulawayo for the first time held its Jam session on Wednesday featuring the likes of William Wataffi, Sandra Ndebele, Jeys Marabini, Khuliyo and Donna N at Private Lounge.

a?Definitely, Jam sessions are a pure form of entertainment. People in Bulawayo need to rally behind their artistes and make the event a success. Itas all about supporting each other,a? he said.
