TWO brothers were hauled before the courts on allegations of assaulting a police officer who wanted to arrest them in connection with a fraud case. Hosea and Tirivaviri Marange appeared before Mr Langton Mukwengi for resisting arrest as well as assaulting a police officer. They pleaded guilty to contravening Section 176 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
It was the State’s case led by Mr Fletcher Karombe that on September 30 at Marange Business Centre, the duo assaulted Often Munyaradzi Ngazimbi who is a police officer stationed at Odzi Police Station.
It is alleged that the police officer was on night patrol at Marange Business Centre when a stranger made a report that he had been conned of his money by the Marange brothers. “The complainant led Ngazimbi to where the accused persons were gambling. The officer apprehends and handcuffed one of the two brothers. Seeing that his brother had been handcuffed, Tirivaviri started throwing stones at the police officer. He was hit by one of the stones and fell down. Tirivaviri rescued his brother and they teamed up to assault the police officer,” said Mr Karombe.
During the assault they tore the police officer’s shirt and took away his cap. He sustained serious injuries. They pleaded guilty and asked for forgiveness. They were remanded in custody awaiting sentence.
