A RAMPAGING female buffalo attacked and killed a ZESA employee as he relieved himself in a bush along Save River in Middle Sabi last week.
Witnesses said the employee, only identified as Doubt, excused himself in order to relieve himself around 11am when he was attacked by the buffalo. The buffalo had a calf. “Hardly a minute after Doubt had excused himself, we heard him screaming for help.
“Doubt was about 15 metres from where I was. The buffalo came from behind and floored him. As he rose, the buffalo tossed him into the air twice. It trampled over him. We watched helplessly as the beast trampled him. One of our guys started the chain saw that we use clear forests in a bid to frighten it off. The animal sped off into the thickets. We then rushed him to Rating Clinic, but he was pronounced dead on arrival,” said a workmate who requested anonymity. He was buried in Harare on Monday.
In an unrelated incident, officers from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife shot three buffaloes that had fallen into a Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) canal at Section Seven in Middle Sabi. Ward Five councillor, Phibeon Machuwaire, said the wild animals needed to be controlled as they were killing people.
