A 23-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo was sentenced to 4 years in prison for kidnapping a 3-year-old girl with the intent to rape her for ritual purposes.
In a statement on X the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said on 26 October Tawanda Maronze abducted the young girl and took her to a bushy area approximately 5 kilometres from her home. His scheme was disrupted when the complainant’s aunt, driving along Solusi Road with friends, spotted him carrying the child and confronted him.
In court, Maronze revealed that his motive was to rape the child for money ritual purposes, claiming this was according to instructions from his traditional healer. Following the shocking admission, he was convicted and sentenced to 4 years in prison for his despicable crime.
