BULAWAYO has rollled out the red carpet for its celebrated daughter, Nobukhosi Nobuhle Tshuma, following her historic achievement at the 2026 Comrades Marathon in South Africa.

The Joshua Nkomo Legacy Restoration Project Trust (JNLRPT) has organised a grand homecoming and victory tour for the accomplished athlete, whose remarkable performance has etched her name into the annals of African distance running.

Tshuma captured the imagination of Zimbabweans after finishing second in the prestigious ultra-marathon, becoming the first Zimbabwean woman to stand on the Comrades Marathon podium. Her achievement was made even more significant as she also became the first black woman to secure an Up Run podium finish in the race’s long and illustrious history dating back to 1921.

The achievement has been widely hailed as one of Zimbabwe’s greatest sporting milestones in recent years, with sports administrators, civic leaders and ordinary citizens applauding Tshuma’s determination, discipline and resilience.

Tshuma arrived at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport on Wednesday morning where she received an official welcome reception before embarking on a city-wide victory tour.
The tour will take her through Makokoba, the Central Business District, the Joshua Nkomo Museum in Matsheumhlope, and Bulawayo City Hall, where a press conference and meet-and-greet session are expected to take place.

The celebrations will conclude with an inspirational lecture at Townsend High School, where Tshuma is expected to share her journey and inspire the next generation of athletes.
Her success has not only elevated Zimbabwe’s profile on the international athletics stage but has also provided a powerful example of what can be achieved through hard work and perseverance. For many aspiring runners, particularly young women, Tshuma’s accomplishment serves as proof that Zimbabwean athletes can compete and excel against the world’s best.

As Bulawayo and the nation prepare to celebrate one of their finest sporting ambassadors, the homecoming promises to be more than a victory parade—it will be a celebration of courage, excellence and the enduring Zimbabwean spirit.
Tshuma’s achievement is not just a personal triumph; it is a victory for Zimbabwean sport and an inspiration to generations yet to come.
