CAN BILLY MAKE IT A DOUBLE?

AS debutantes MWOS continue to soar, unbeaten after the first dozen games in the domestic Premiership, Billy Veremu must be praying he can win a second straight league title.

Lloyd Mutasa’s men are leading the championship race with 26 points and enjoy a three-point cushion with their old foes Scottland sitting in second place.

The two clubs are set to clash on Week Day 14 in Norton and it is already being dubbed the Game Of The First Half Of The Season.

The Punters won more games (seven) than any other team so far this season.

Veremu was sent to the Norton side by champions Simba Bhora on a season-long loan deal to get more game time.

Veremu has been on the scoresheet seven times this season and is just one goal behind Washington Navaya of TelOne in the Golden Boot race.

The leading goal scorer at his parent club, Isakar Gurirab, has only four goals to his name.Veremu bagged a hat-trick when they thumped Kwekwe United 4-0 at Ngoni on Saturday.

His hat-trick saw him surpass his all-time highest tally of six goals, which he registered three seasons ago during his tenure at the now relegated Bulawayo Chiefs.

Veremu told Zimpapers Sport that his fine form has given him more faith in God.

The 29-year-old has set his sights on the Golden Boot.

“This journey has taught me not to question God’s will. I will always be grateful to God for what he is doing for me.

“I got loaned to MWOS when they weren’t even planning to buy PSL status and I was preparing to play in the lower divisions but, fortunately, God had other plans.

“I have been working hard in training to improve myself with the help of my family, teammates and coaches. I’m targeting the Golden Boot but the team’s objectives remain top priority,” said Veremu.
