CDE BIZWERK SOLOMON will represent Zanu PF in the Chinhoyi Ward 14 by-election slated for August 2 after he won the party’s primary elections held over the weekend.

He trounced Cde Martha Paul Mapfumo after he garnering 403 votes against Cde Mapfumo’s 43.

The seat fell vacant following the conviction of Citizens for Coalition Change (CCC) representative and Chinhoyi Deputy Mayor Chipo Mlotshwa last week for fraudulently acquiring a residential stand from the council.

Mlotshwa was initially sentenced to three years in prison before one year was suspended on condition of good behaviour.

She escaped a custodial sentence after her remaining years were commuted to 840 hours of community service at Alaska School.

Makonde district coordinating committee (DCC) chairman, Cde Elisha Bhokoro, said the party was on the ground to mobilise voters ahead of the by-election.

Provincial chairperson Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, said the party’s people-centred policies and the Second Republic’s continued development agenda had seen Zanu PF reclaim seats from the opposition in by-elections held after the 2023 harmonised elections.
