MUTARE will be the focal point of the country’s gentleman’s game when the crème de la crème of golf converge for the Champion of Champions competition at Hillside Golf Club next month.
More than 60 club representatives from across the country will gather in Mutare on June 20 and 21.
The national Champion of Champions competition, hosted on a rotational basis, follows Club Championships held at every club nationwide to select representatives for the annual event.
The winners from all golf clubs affiliated to the Zimbabwe Golf Association will contest the Champion of Champions at Hillside Golf Club after qualifying at their intra-club championships on June 6 and 7.
One golfer from each club will represent their club at the national Champion of Champions competition.
Manicaland Golf president, Caleb Kunze, confirmed the arrangements.
“We are excited to host the Champion of Champions competition at Hillside Golf Club this year. As a club, we are ready to stage the event. It is important to note that the Champion of Champions will follow the Club Championships on 6 and 7 June, when all clubs will select their representatives for the national contest,” said Kunze.
Last year’s Champion of Champions tournament was hosted by Roland Park Golf Club in Zvishavane.
Kunze and Chitimba, the greenkeeper at Troutbeck Resort Golf Club, represented Manicaland at last year’s edition in Zvishavane.
Meanwhile, Hillside Golf Club is inviting corporates in the eastern border city to sponsor its Wednesday club golf tournaments through a modest sponsorship package.
The Hillside Golf Club sponsorship invitation reads:
“On behalf of Hillside Sports Club Mutare, we are excited to invite your organisation to sponsor a Wednesday Club Golf Tournament at your convenience in 2026. “This fun-filled event brings together local golfers, business leaders and community members, offering a fantastic opportunity for your brand to shine.
“By sponsoring, you will gain exposure to a targeted audience, boost your business visibility and support local golf development. Any additional contributions for players are optional. Your support will help make the event a success and contribute to the growth of golf in Manicaland. We are flexible and open to customising packages to fit your marketing goals. Thank you for considering this opportunity. We look forward to partnering with you on the putting green!”
For example, Mutare City Golf Club, a sporting discipline operating under the Council’s Wellness Programme, aims to promote golf, networking and community engagement among staff. It has been a partner of this progressive initiative.
The club participates in social games, tournaments and competitions that encourage teamwork, wellness and healthy living. It is also seeking to expand its participation and affiliations with stakeholders in Mutare who are interested in promoting the city through golf.
In addition, the club hosts fundraising tournaments in support of vulnerable groups in the community, including the Zororai Old People’s Fundraiser scheduled for 25 July 2026 and the Mayor’s Cheer Fund Tournament on 7 November 2026.
