BULAWAYO Chiefs head coach, Nilton Terosso, says his team need to improve and collect maximum points in the remaining games for them to build a foundation for next season.
The Ninjas went down 1-3 at home to neighbours Chicken Inn on Sunday.
The script, though, could have been different had they not missed a first half penalty to take the lead.
“We need to improve and collect points as we go forward in these remaining last 13 games,” said Terosso.
“We need to finish the season the way we want to and that should be the foundation for what we want to achieve in the next season as well.”
Terrosso believes the first goal by Chicken Inn affected their game plan, leading to them conceding three goals.
“They have good players, good staff and above all, they are good people.
“They were opponents for 90 minutes, apart from that there is a relationship between us.
“We have to congratulate them for that.
“In terms of the game, we were outstanding. The third goal was a bit difficult.
“We were on the rash, we were taking a risk of trying to push for a draw.
“Every other moment of the game, especially the first half until the first goal, we were incredible.”
He said his men impressed him.
“We were absolutely outstanding. The football we were playing was the best and quality in my opinion from watching it.
“They did everything I asked them to do but until the first goal, I think we were outstanding.
“The way we played was very good. We were able to nullify them and proof of that is Chicken Inn changed their system and went to play 4-3-3 to match us one-on-one.
“The moment we were about to make the first sub they scored the first goal and it changed the game.
“We took bigger risks as we pushed players a bit high up. They marked us, man-to-man, as we tried to attack.
“It became a game where we went back-and-forth and it became a tennis match.
“We have nothing to be ashamed of. I am very proud of the players.”
