IN a bid to professionalise his academy’s operations, Zimbabwe football legend Moses “Bambo” Chunga is likely to go into a partnership with an organisation soon.
Chunga has approached a number of organisations to partner him through his Moses Bambo Chunga Academy.
The move is expected to help him with resource mobilisation and co-ordination.
The Moses Bambo Chunga Academy was established years back, but had been struggling to realise its full potential due to lack of resources.
But the academy is receiving fresh impetus with negotiations going on behind the scenes.
The partnership is meant to promote and benefit both parties with the partner expected to get visibility around the country through using the academy’s programmes while the academy will receive funding and equipment, among other things.
Chunga said the partnership is expected to revive junior football development in the country.
“The partnership will help massively in football development countrywide. Coaches and goodwill ambassadors will be appointed to be champions of this noble cause.
“I am planning to build an academy of football excellence in this country as a way of ploughing back what I have also harvested from football both as a talented player and coach.
“I have worked to develop the Moses Bambo Chunga Academy over the years, bringing together the underprivileged and disadvantaged children from the remote areas.
“My overall intention is to develop the community through improving football in Zimbabwe by scouting for talent,” said Chunga.
The former Warriors and Dynamos midfielder believes he has inspired generations with the 46 goals that he scored in 1986 still unbroken.
Before the Covid lockdown, Chunga was working hard on rekindling his passion for junior football development working with some individual well-wishers going into marginalised communities to tap talent.
But the former Gunners and CAPS United coach wants all those efforts to blossom into something bigger through the partner’s assistance.
He also believes with drug and substance abuse now rampant in communities, there is a need to go into overdrive with his ambitious programme if he seals the partnership with the organisations he has earmarked.
“The project aims to sustainably emancipate talented youths, help break out poverty circles, drug and sexual abuse, at the same time imparting life skills,” said Chunga.
