POLICE in Bulawayo are investigating a tragic incident of a 44-year-old man who was allegedly found dead in a swimming pool at Queens Sports Club on Sunday.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said that the deceased, Nqabutho Gama, is believed to have drowned.
“We are investigating a sudden death where Nqabutho Gama aged 44, is alleged to have drowned in a swimming pool at Queens Sports Club. He was last seen on the 19th of October 2024 when he was with his friends, drinking beer and then leaving around 1600 hours to go to the swimming pool. His friends followed him later to check on him but were unable to find him. They concluded that he might have gone home,” said Insp Ncube.
Insp Ncube said when they got to his home the following day, the deceased was nowhere to be found.
“This prompted them to go back to the swimming pool for a search. It was during this search that they found him floating in the water. A report was then made to the police, and they attended the scene,” he said.
Given that the rainy season is about to start, Insp Ncube urged the public to exercise caution around water bodies and ensure that swimming pools are properly secured and supervised.
