A TUCK-SHOP owner from Ntabazinduna in Matabeleland North province has dragged an alleged illegal gold miner to court for allegedly harassing her.
Thandiwe Dube from Phahlo village in Ntabazinduna said Brian Sibanda was in the habit of taking items such as drinks from her tuck-shop and refusing to pay. She stated that when she confronted him he would insult him.
“He would say I have to pack and go saying I’m not from Ntabazinduna. He also insults me. I don’t know whether I need a passport to stay there. He is not the owner of the place,” she said.
Dube said she was living in fear.
“I’m now living in fear of being attacked because he is known for being a violent man and always threatens to beat me up. At times he would threaten to stab me to death. I pray that the court would stop him from coming to my tuck-shop and insulting me. I don’t want to talk or meet up with him.”
Sibanda took to the stand: “We have exchanged harsh words because I would be asking about my change. I have said those words out of anger.”
However, the magristrate granted Dube, a peace order. Sibanda was ordered not to verbally and emotionally abuse Dube. The order is valid for 12 months.
