A MUTARE truck driver was recently hauled before a Mutare magistrate on allegations of stealing fuel. Nicholas Mubvumbi, an employee at RVC Logistics, was convicted on his own plea of guilty when he appeared before Mrs Annie Ndiraya and was sentenced to 90 days imprisonment wholly suspended on condition that he restituted the company $290 before October 30.
A long hosepipe was used to commit the crime.

Public prosecutor Mr Shepherd Chawarika told the court that Mubvumbi was nabbed while draining diesel from a RVC Logistics tanker.
“On August 7, Nicholas Mubvumbi was caught by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers while draining 210 litres diesel at Quest    Motors.

“When ZRP officers arrived at the scene, the accused jumped from the top of the tank and tried to escape. He was arrested before he disappeared into the darkness,” he said.

Asked by the magistrate why he committed the offence, he said he wanted to refill his empty tank and sell the remainder.
