A suspected drug dealer, who was arrested after being found in possession of broncleer worth over US$16 000, appeared in court yesterday.
Rodrick Chambe was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Winfilder Tiatara charged with possession of unspecified medicines.
The court heard that on April 1, Detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, received information to the effect that there was a Toyota Quantum with South African Registration number plates, which was coming from Bulawayo heading to Harare and was using Harare-Bulawayo Road.
Detectives then went to Kadoma and waylaid the vehicle.
When the vehicle got to the Kadoma tollgate, the detectives approached the driver who stated that he was carrying consignment destined to Harare which was going to be collected by Chambe in Harare.
The police lured Chambe to come and collect his consignment at Show ground along Bulawayo road and subsequently arrested him.
A search was conducted on the vehicle at Harare Central Police in the presence of Chambe and 42 boxes containing 2100 100ml of Broncleer cough syrup were recovered.
Upon receiving the consignment, Chambe was arrested.
