THE business community in Majindane, Nyamandlovu says the availability of electricity is set to unlock growth opportunities, reduce operating costs and improve security, giving a major boost to local enterprises.
Entrepreneurs here say access to power will enable them to process products locally, increase productivity and expand their operations, while reducing reliance on costly alternative energy sources.
One of the beneficiaries, Ms Mercy Mpofu, said the electrification of the area would have an immediate positive impact on her business.

“We are so excited that we now have electricity. We were using gas and it is expensive for us in terms of cost, transportation and also the dangers associated with transportation from Bulawayo,” said Ms Mpofu.
She said access to electricity would allow her to scale up operations and improve security at her business premises.
“So, I look forward to expanding the business. Also, security around the premises is now enhanced,” she said.
Ms Mpofu spoke when Minister of Energy and Power Development July Moyo toured the business centre ahead of the switch-on ceremony at Majindane Primary School.
Minister Moyo was accompanied by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland North, Richard Moyo, Energy and Power Development Permanent Secretary Engineer Gloria Magombo and senior officials from the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The Minister is in Nyamandlovu to officiate at the electrification switch-on ceremony at Majindane Primary School, a development expected to improve learning conditions and support socio-economic activities in the area.
The project forms part of ongoing Government efforts to expand electricity access to rural communities, improve service delivery and stimulate economic development in line with national development objectives.
