CHAIRPERSON of the Zimbabwe Indigenous Interdenominational Council of Churches, Reverend Andrew Wutaunashe, says the nation has carefully deliberated on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 and that the church will continue praying for peace, unity and harmony as the legislative process unfolds.
Rev Wutaunashe said this while addressing congregants and guests, including Vice President Kembo Mohadi, during the churches’ conference at White City Stadium in Bulawayo.
Speaking on the proposed legislation currently before Parliament, Rev Wutaunashe said the nation had thoroughly considered the matter and concluded that it could help accelerate Zimbabwe’s development by reducing frequent election cycles.
“We believe that, as a nation, we have carefully deliberated and concluded that it will help Zimbabwe accelerate its development by avoiding frequent election cycles. We also believe it will allow the leadership of His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, to continue implementing the mandate that God has entrusted to him and provide sufficient time for him to complete that task,” he said.
Rev Wutaunashe said it was important for citizens to remain united despite differing views on the proposed legislation.
“At the same time, we believe it is important to pray that the legislative process currently before Parliament and the Senate proceeds peacefully and successfully. Regardless of differing views on the matter, we must remain one united family as Zimbabweans. We therefore pray for unity, peace and harmony in our nation,” he said.
