Family under Siege after couple go into hiding

Sunday News Reporter

In a troubling turn of events in Umguza district, Matabeleland North province, the family of Admire Masina and his wife, Thandolwenkosi Tshuma, is facing relentless harassment and intimidation from authorities and alleged supporters of the ruling ZANU-PF party.

Admire Masina, a known supporter of the opposition party Zapu, had been actively campaigning as a volunteer in the lead-up to the August 2023 harmonised elections. His involvement as a polling agent for Zapu in Umguza has now placed him and his family in grave danger.

Following the elections, Masina’s colleagues, who were also involved in the campaign, were arrested under suspicious circumstances, raising fears that they were being targeted for their political activities. The situation escalated quickly, prompting Masina and Thandolwenkosi to go into hiding to protect themselves from potential repercussions.

Now, the couple’s family is bearing the brunt of the fallout.

Reports indicate that both police and ZANU-PF supporters have been demanding information about the couple’s whereabouts.

A relative of the couple expressed deep concern, stating, “Initially it was the police, and now ZANU-PF supporters are all demanding the whereabouts of the couple. We are extremely worried for their safety.”

The ongoing harassment has left the family in a state of fear and uncertainty, as they navigate the dangerous political landscape in Zimbabwe.

The situation highlights the increasing risks faced by opposition supporters in the country, particularly in the wake of contentious elections.

As the Masina-Tshuma family continues to endure these threats, calls for justice and protection for political activists grow louder.
