A DISPUTE that erupted at Dereck Farm in Rusape took a violent turn when one of the two quarrelling farm workers was seriously injured after being stabbed multiple times with a knife.
The incident occurred on June 25, 2025 around 7pm.
The complainant, Michael Makanza (50), a worker at Dereck Farm, sustained four stab wounds to the lower side of his left ribs.
The accused, Rugare Shamu (43), also a farm worker at the same farm, has since been arrested following the incident.
Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the incident occurred when Shamu visited his ex-wife, Gracious Chikore (40), at the farm compound.
A heated argument broke out between the two over an undisclosed issue.
Catherine Nemashewe (46), who is Makanza’s wife, intervened and advised Chikore to seek refuge in her room, which she did.
Shamu allegedly turned his anger towards Nemashewe, accusing her of turning his ex-wife against him.
“Makanza arrived home in an intoxicated state shortly afterwards and confronted Shamu over the insults directed at his wife. This confrontation escalated when Shamu pushed Makanza to the ground before drawing an okapi knife and stabbing him four time,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Other farm workers rushed Makanza to Rusape General Hospital, where he is currently admitted in a stable condition.
The matter was reported to ZRP Rusape Central the following morning, and police officers attended the scene, and arrested the suspect.
