IT was fists and fury when a Bulawayo man exploded in anger after his girlfriend delayed opening the door for him.
Levy Ndlovu (42) of Cowdray Park was fined US$150 after he assaulted his girlfriend, strangled her and pushed her against the wall in a violent rage attack.
Ndlovu appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube, facing a charge of physical abuse. He pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay a US$150 fine by 16 January 2026 or face two months behind bars.
The court heard that the accused and complainant are lovers whose relationship turned ugly on the night of 17 December at around 7.45 PM.
Prosecutor Cathrine Kuzu told the court that the complainant, Angela Ncube (36), was fast asleep inside the house when Ndlovu arrived and knocked on the door.
Since she was sleeping, Angela did not respond immediately.
But when she finally opened the door, she was met by an already furious boyfriend.
The court heard that Ndlovu launched a brutal attack, punching her several times with rock-hard fists, pushing her against the wall and strangling her.
Angela sustained a black eye and was later referred to hospital for medical attention.
A police report was made, and officers quickly moved in, leading to the arrest of the hot-headed lover.
In court, Ndlovu admitted to the charge.
The magistrate slapped him with a US$150 fine and warned him that beating a girlfriend over a late door opening is not love, it is a crime.
