SONGBIRD Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave was at her best when she descended on Montclair last Saturday and turned the usually sleepy nights at the four-star hotel into echoes of jubilation.
Although she did not travel with her newly assembled choir as highly anticipated, the gospel diva gave vacationers a holiday to remember with her energetic dances and soothing voice which blended perfectly with the chilly weather.
She entertained vacationers from dinner up to around 10pm. She belted songs ranging from yesteryear hits like Tende Kudenga, Svitsa Tsvene and Makomborero to Kuda Kwenyu Ngakuitwe plucked off from her new offering set to be released later this year.
The song, which Fungisai said was the first time to play it publicly, sent many into their respective memory lanes with some falling into trances as they sang along and waved hands in response to the songbird’s irresistible penetrating voice.
Fungisai said she was elated to be in Nyanga.
“As a family woman, I feel greatly blessed to have this opportunity to mingle with other families during this Easter holiday.
“Our next album due for release later this year has been getting great response and we are looking forward to its successful launch.
“Unfortunately, we could not bring the choir as the hotel was fully booked,” she said.
She had fun time with her audience in photo shooting and general conversations.
Montclair Hotel general manager Regedzai Chimhavi also hailed the musician.
