GMAZ to host food expo

The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe, the apex representative body of the milling industry, will be hosting a food expo in Mutare from November 6 to 7. The essence of this expo is to provide a platform for local food companies to showcase their products direct to the consuming public ahead of the festive season. In a statement released this week the association said: “We seek to increase and enhance the consumer’s preference to their local brands and also increase the brand equity of the local products on the markets. The local food industry is slowly recovering from the effect of the foreign brands that had dominated the local markets since dollarization.

“The Mutare Food Expo is the fourth edition after successfully hosting food expos in Harare, Bulawayo and Gweru. It had come imperative for local food companies to have direct interface with their actual consumers and introduce new products and also gather market intelligence that is critical in the product development processes”. The expos are assisting local food companies to increase their capacity utilization and in turn provide a lucrative market for local agricultural produce such as maize, wheat, soya beans, potatoes, milk and many others.

“This event works on the successful implementation of the ZIMASSET blue print and the 10 point plan. An assortment of food products such as bread, maize meal, rice, cooking oil, dairy will be on display. The event will be held on Street B, between Meikles and Spar. Entrance will be free and they will lot of entertainment for the whole family,” reads the statement.
