A BULAWAYO miner was left shaken after three pistol-wielding thugs stormed his Emganwini home in a terrifying early morning robbery and made off with thousands in cash and cellphones.
The daring raid happened around 3AM on 28 July. The masked criminals jumped over the yard’s durawall, sliced through burglar bars and crept into the house while the victim was fast asleep.
Deputy Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu confirmed the chilling incident.
“Three unknown male adults, armed with two pistols, cut the burglar bars using an unknown object and gained entry,” she said.
The 39-year-old victim was jolted awake at gunpoint, with the suspects threatening to shoot him if he didn’t hand over cash.
“They told him they knew he was a miner and demanded money,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
Fearing for his life, the man surrendered a brown leather bag hidden in his wardrobe, containing US$3 720, ZAR1 000 and five cellphones.
The robbers then vanished into the darkness.
Police have launched a manhunt and are urging the public to assist.
“Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects is urged to report to the nearest police station,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
She also issued a stern warning to the public.
“Avoid keeping large sums of money at home. It makes you a target.”
