FORMER Dynamos midfielder, Archford Gutu, says he is surprised by the response he has received since he launched his academy in November last year.
The academy is based in Mount Pleasant.
It caters for both boys and girls under the age of 15 and those above 18.
“The journey has been amazing and I’m amazed by the response and support within football circles as well as silent well-wishers who have been supporting us,” he said.
“I can say so far so good.
“We are still engaging players through trials. We are also scouting.
“The AG Academy is still in its infancy, we are still growing and we aim to reach greater heights.
“We wish to expand and become an academy of choice in Zimbabwe.”
Gutu says owning an academy was always in his dream as he wanted to give back to football.
“I established the academy for the love of the game. I feel I have to give back to football in a remarkable way.
“For me, it’s also for the continuation of the game I love the most.
“Uplifting young players is also a passion I always had. I hope the connections I have as a player will also help a lot of them.
“I always dreamt of owning a football academy and it was the right time since I am not involved in football activities, contract-wise.”
He added:
“I am making use of the time I have as an unattached player.
“My target with the academy is to produce talented young players and send them to my former teams and other connections I have in Europe.
“I’m also assisting with USA scholarships, for those students who are good in football, and academics.
“I already have two students going in August after completing all paperwork procedures.”
