A Harare man has appeared before the Mbare Magistrate’s Court facing assault charges after he allegedly hit another man with a stone, resulting in the loss of seven teeth.
Takudzwa Tigere told senior Magistrate Winnet Joni that Nobert Nengwami attacked him with a stone as he was trying to mediate between him and his friend.
“I rushed out of my car to try and stop Nengwami and my friend from fighting because I could see their argument was heated,” Tigere said.
“I approached Nengwami and told him to stop, but he suddenly picked up a stone and threw it at my face.”
Tigere said he was severely injured and is now struggling to perform basic functions.
“I can no longer speak or eat properly, and I am experiencing terrible headaches. I have already accumulated medical bills and I want to be compensated,” he said.
However, Nengwami denied using a stone.
“Tigere and his two friends were pushing me and I felt threatened. To escape, I hit him with my fist,” Nengwami said.
Nengwami requested a postponement of the hearing to March 10 so that he can bring a witness to support his claims.
The magistrate adjourned the case to March 10 to allow the defence some time to present its witness.
