HILLCREST College is maintaining its reputation for sporting excellence after a number of its athletes were selected for the provincial team competing in the National Association of School Heads (NASH) athletics national finals in Harare from March 25 to 26.
In recent years, Hillcrest College has produced world-class athletes, including Buhera-born Vimbai Maisvoreva and Makanaka Charamba, who gained global recognition following an impressive Olympic performance.

At the provincial championships held at Nyanyadzi High School on March 5 and 6, nine Hillcrest College learners qualified for the national championships.

Wandel Lourenco and Tawana Temayi will both represent Manicaland Province in the 4x100m relay, while Tawana Chakonda will participate in the 110m hurdles.
Takudzwa Ziswa will also compete in the 4x100m relay, while Arab Chimuchembere is set to give competitors a good run for their money in the 100m and 200m sprint races, as well as the 4x100m relay.
Thomas Nhenga will partake in the 80m hurdles competition.
Budding grandmaster, Brandon Svikepi, will represent the province in chess.

Peter Chimuseu, marketing manager for Hillcrest College, said: “Their achievements reflect the dedication invested by both the athletes and the committed coaching staff at Hillcrest College, where young sportsmen and women are carefully nurtured and developed. Hillcrest College is proud to celebrate the success of its athletes who progressed through the zonal, district, and provincial competitions, culminating in qualification for the national championships.
“The school appreciates the strong sporting culture within the province, which continues to raise the standard of athletics. At Hillcrest, sport is far more than a routine school activity; it is part of a deliberate and holistic approach to education, promoting discipline, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles, while providing a positive alternative in the fight against drug and substance abuse. The school views sport as an intentional pathway that can open doors to future opportunities and careers for its students. While the athletes heading to nationals represent the school this season, they stand on behalf of many other learners at Hillcrest College who continue to excel across a wide range of sporting and academic pursuits, as the school strives to educate the whole child.”
