Hooligan unleashes reign of terror

A CONTROVERSIAL Mutare hooligan – Clyde Jani – with a litany of assault and malicious damage to property previous cases, is at it again after he allegedly assaulted a reveller during a musical show which left him injured before pouring sugar into his vehicle’s engine.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda, said police were looking for Jani who fled after assaulting Douglas Kombo during last Saturday’s incident-filled Jah Prayzah’s show in Mutare.

“He (Clyde Jani) is on police wanted list in connection with the violence that erupted at Pick and Save during the Jah Prayzah’s show. He is facing charges of assault and malicious damage to property,” said Asst Insp Chananda.

Pick and Save proprietor, Mr Isau Mupfumi, confirmed that he was working on a restriction order to bar Jani from visiting his premises.

“Yes, I am currently engaging my legal advisors on the issue with the aim of getting a restriction order to bar him (Jani) from visiting my premises,” said Mr Mupfumi.

A cursory investigation into his previous cases revealed that Jani has had brushes with the law on numerous occasions in the past including Case Number 1296/12 in which he faced charges of theft and assault where a Vehicle Inspection Department official, Mr Edward Siyabonga was the complainant.

Under Case Number 3827/12, Jani faced charges of malicious damage to property and escaping from lawful custody.

He also faced charges of theft, assault and malicious damage to property under Case Number 4289/13 where the owner of Mirirai Driving School was the complainant.

Jani has another assault charge under Case Number 2493/13 which is still pending before the courts, while in Case Number 1767/13 in which he faced criminal nuisance charges he was removed from remand.

He also faced charges of contravening the Firearms Act (Section 27 (B) under Case Number 3980/15 for pointing a firearm at a complainant.

Last Saturday, Jani, who was at the centre of scene of violence at Pick and Save, allegedly approached Kombo who was in the company of his brother Callistus and a friend Ernest Porusingazi.

Circumstances were that he unsuccessfully solicited for cash from Kombo and subsequently assaulted him before allegedly pouring sugar in the latter’s vehicle engine.

It is alleged that when Kombo refused to give him money, the fugitive with the help of some youths started assaulting him.

A medial report taken after the assault revealed that the victim suffered injuries.

A report made to the police showed that Kombo lost $1 700 and a wrist watch worth $250 during the melee.

Although the Vehicle Inspection Department is yet to make an assessment on the damage to the vehicle, a search on Google revealed that if sugar is poured into the vehicle engine and fuel tank, the vehicle engine seizes to function and could be a right off.
