A 16-year-old self-confessed witch stunned villagers at Chief Zimunya’s traditional court on Sunday after she revealed that she sent a snake to kill an aide at the court. The teenager (name withheld) last month came out and claimed she was a proud owner of 10 hyenas and 10 snakes which she uses in her nocturnal activities.
In her confessions, she narrated spine-chilling underworld activities which resulted in the deaths of some villagers over the years.
The youthful witch claimed she was now being haunted by the avenging spirit of one of her group’s victims, Tracy Mutendi, who is baying for her blood.
On Sunday, she stunned the court in her manifestations after she revealed that she had been forced to send a snake to kill one of the Chief’s aides who escorted them to traditional healers in a bid to cover the truth.
“You (pointing at the Chiefs aide) would have died if you had killed that praying mantis.
“You are too clever for nothing and they wanted to get rid of you. It was actually a snake that had been sent. If it had bit you or if you had killed it you would be dead by now,” revealed the girl in her manifestation.
After consultations it was revealed that the girl and Portia Bhasera, the wife of her stepfather’s elder brother, were both witches, though Portia had previously denied the allegations last month.
It was revealed that the incision marks (nyora) on the teenager’s body were involuntarily placed on the girl by her grandmother.
However, the teenager also had charms cast on her by Portia, which explained why she claimed to be Portia Bhasera, when asked her name in her manifestations.
The girl’s mother, Francesca Chitambo-Bhasera, cried at the court that ever since the girl confessed her cohorts were trying to kill her.
“Please help my child Chief. Her life is also now in danger ever since she rebelled against her cohorts. Just recently she came home running being chased by an Egyptian cobra (Nyamafungu) that wanted to kill her. This other day she got into a trance and almost drowned in a dam. I beg you Chief to hasten this matter and help my daughter,” said Francesca.
Portia did not deny to the charges and said she also wanted help to have the incision marks removed.
During the court another villager, Cuthbert Mareesa, also appeared before the court after he heard that the girl had confessed to bewitching him.
“Chief please help me. This girl confessed that she sent a snake (mubvuri wenyoka) to bite me. Last year in February my right leg just got swollen from the blue.
“I went to doctors and prophets, but to no avail. It was only recently that I heard the girl confess to be behind this, which is why I am here for assistance. The pain is unbearable and I cannot stand it anymore,” said Mareesa who showed the court his leg.
In her confessions in April the girl claimed to have eaten over 25 corpses and killed four people including, the late Tracy Mutendi who was now haunting her.
“In this case the girl confessed to killing four people, so that is 28 beasts and four goats to the families of the victims in total.
“But since it is Tracy Mutendi haunting her they can deal with this case first,” said Acting Chief Zimunya.
Acting Chief Zimunya, however, said to help end the girl’s sorcery and remove the incision marks put on her, $300 would be required.
The Bhasera and Chitambo family agreed to come with the money on June 7.
The case will be back in court on June 14.
