THE saxophone, now a household instrument for many musical appearances, has seen artists part with a considerable amount to add it onto their sets when performing.

Osborne Matengenza, dubbed King of Sax, is one of the most sought-after in the music arena running with the stage name IamKing.

He will be holding a live performance at The Venue in Avondale tomorrow.

The All-Star appearances by Victor Kunonga, Tanya Alex, a top comedian, and Nate, who is an afro-jazz singer and instrumentalist, will be major highlights at the event.

Born Osborne Matengenzara, on the 19th of June 1992, in Harare, IamKing is the last in a family of four.

He grew up with his mother after the parents separated.

The hardships they faced influence his music as he recalls the challenges faced by his mother fending for him and his siblings.

One of the best gifts his mother gave him was taking him to one of the leading schools in Harare, Prince Edward, a feat that enabled him to explore and develop his musical talent.

Osborne always loved music when played with his toy guitar, along with Bob Marley’s tracks.

His passion flared when he saw, for the first time, the jazz band playing at Prince Edward.

After school, Osborne broke from music for a while and ventured into other career avenues. That’s when he founded a very successful advertising agency.

Only in 2017, did music start calling out to him and he pursued his passion.

Osborne started as part of a boy band called Jam Signal, from where he then moved to a solo career, as IamKing.

He went on to release several singles including,  Let You Down;Love Is True; Ndakusuwa and Mapisarema, which he performed with 3D Keys and Chiweddar.

He has shared the stage with the legendary Oliver Mtukudzi, SA songstress Lira, Steward Sekuma, Salif Keita, Ivan Mazuze, Jah Prayzah, and Chiwoniso Maraire.

At the moment, he is working on a full album under the Southern African record label, Sony.

His mother is his biggest inspiration.

Osborne hears melodies while going about his everyday activities.

Sometimes these come in song, with the lyrics.

The stage is set tomorrow for all jazz lovers to have a wine and song Sax Lounge evening at The Venue.
