I’m not a one-hit wonder: Mudimba

Edwin Nhukarume

BINGA-BRED singer D.T Bio Mudimba says he is not a one hit-wonder, following his breakthrough with the song Kujatajata.

The award-winning prison warden-cum-musician  will be back on the airwaves with a new single titled, Mushe Mushe, due for release on July 20.

As the name suggests,  the singer has assured fans they will certainly enjoy the single, which is a precursor to his upcoming album.

What has raised the appeal of the single is that it comes after Madzibaba Zakaria, Alick Macheso and Mark Ngwazi have also released their own products. Currently, there has been a raging debate on who nailed it better, between Macheso  and Ngwazi.

His single is likely to divert attention, if it meets or surpass the standards he set with Kujatajata.

However, the singer was recently quoted by this publication saying he was not out to compete but complement others.

“We are not in a competition and, because of that, we are not worried whether the project will get overshadowed or not but we are worried about keeping our music supporters entertained.

“They are our big brothers in the genre and we are just an upcoming band that seeks a beginning in the industry.

“We are far away from being compared with the great artists like Alick Macheso, Nicholas Zakaria, Mark Ngwazi, to mention a few.

Mudimba is still to release an album.

He has two singles he released last year, namely Kujatajata in January, and Baama Ataata, in September.

He is also the producer of all his music, with the assistance of Afro Recordz Studios, based in Bulawayo.

His emergence was a breath of fresh air as he brought a new genre into showbiz. Unlike most artists who copy Macheso, Mudimba has a unique sound, which makes him distinct.
