IT’S TIME TO SHOW OUR REAL COLOURS, SAYS MAKARATI

AFTER registering their first win of the season last weekend, TelOne are now targeting to build on that victory to gather momentum in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

It feels like a restart, a recalibration of everything at the Gweru-based side after they parted ways with coach Herbert Maruwa.

They recruited seasoned coach Saul Chaminuka with former Dynamos midfielder, Philemon Mutyakureva, joining as assistant to Chaminuka.

Peter Masibera is the new goalkeepers’ coach, taking over from Ndega Matsika.

This leaves only Jacob Muzokomba (second assistant) and club captain, Frank Makarati, as the surviving leaders who can help steer the club to safety.

TelOne are at home to in-form Hardrock this weekend in a Midlands derby.

“Our next step is to make sure we grind out results, starting with our next match against Hardrock,” said Makarati. “What we are fighting for is to get maximum points in every match we play, we need to cover a lot of ground. When you look at the points we lost, we can’t keep dropping points.

“Getting our first win has really lifted us in a big way because losing was now affecting the boys mentally but now it feels like a restoration has taken place and we are ready to get going.”

TelOne have lost all their five home matches this season and face an uphill task in arresting that free-fall when they host Hardrock.

However, Makarati is adamant the Wifi Boys’ home record is not a reflection of his troops’ ability.

“To be fair, we have played some of our best football at home despite losing, we have simply been lacking in terms of luck at home.

“Otherwise, this is a very strong team and I do not doubt what we are capable of doing and soon everyone will see how good a team we are.”
