The elephant emerged from a maize field and attacked them.
Mashonaland West police spokes-person Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident.
He said Takudzwa’s fate was sealed when he got up to run away.
As the young boy tried to escape, the elephant gave chase and caught up with him. It reportedly hoisted him and threw him to the ground. The toddler died on the spot.
“The other two managed to escape without any injuries,” he said.
The elephant disappeared into the forest and the Hurungwe District Council Campfire is tracking it.
Police attended the scene and Takudzwa’s body was taken to Karoi Hospital mortuary.
