Kabamba in Zim for refereeing course

Federation to conduct the four-day course, which got underway yesterday and will end on Saturday.
The Level One referees’ course is being held under the auspices of both the International Handball Federation and the African Handball Confederation and has received the blessings of the Sports Commission.

Kabamba, a certified African Handball Confederation referees’ instructor, said yesterday that the Level One referees’ course is designed for beginners and he will mainly be teaching the participants the basic rules of the game.
“This is a Level One referees’ course and I’ll be emphasising more on the basic rules of the game.
“I’ll also be teaching the participants the new international handball rules which have been implemented by the African Handball Confederation so that our colleagues

from Zimbabwe know the application of these rules.”

The seasoned administrator from the Democratic Republic of Congo who is now based in South Africa said he will also do both practical and theoretical lessons during the four-day referees’ course.
“In fact, I’m here in Harare at the invitation of the Zimbabwe Handball Federation to uplift the standards of handball refereeing in this country.

“As you know, in Zimbabwe, handball is played more at school level and I’m happy to see that there are a lot of schoolteachers among the participants which is very important because they (the schoolteachers) will (also) get to know the basic rules of the game,” Kabamba said.
Apart from being a certified AHC referees’ instructor, Kabamba is the head of the Referees’ Commission in the whole of the Zone Six Region.

In South Africa, Kabamba is the head of the Technical Commission of the South African Handball Federation and is also in charge of referees and competitions.
More than 30 participants, drawn from all Zimbabwe’s 10 Provinces, are attending this Level One referees’ course which yesterday saw Kabamba, on Day One, touching on various subjects which included the history of the game and its spirit, basic rules, playing time, final signal and time-out.

Today will see him helping the participants going through various aspects of the game of handball such as playing the ball, passive play, fouls and unsportsman-like behaviour.
The course will end on Saturday with the participants sitting for an exam with the successful “candidates” getting certificates while others will receive certificates of attendance.

Amon Madzvamuse, the ZHF president, said this course will go a long way in raising the handball officiating standards in this country.
“I’m happy that we have managed to bring to this country Germain Kabamba who is an experienced and a well-travelled international handball official to conduct this referees’ course.

“I’ve no doubt that his presence here will help to uplift the handball officiating standards in this country and it is good to see that this course has attracted a lot of schoolteachers who are part of our junior development programme.”
Madzvamuse also thanked the Sports Commission for allowing Kabamba to conduct this referees’ course, saying this shows that the country’s supreme sports body are also keen to see the development of handball in this country. Beauty Mtsambiwa, the headmistress of Girls High School in Harare, meanwhile, saluted

Madzvamuse and the ZHF for bringing Kabamba to Zimbabwe to conduct this referees’ course which is mainly designed for schoolteachers.
“Handball in this country is mainly played at school level and this course is very important for us in the schools because it will help the schoolteachers to grasp or to know the basic rules of the game,” she said.
