THE Rotaract Club of NUST in collaboration with Young and Dynamic Club is appealing for donations to assist Bulawayo’s St Francis Home housed at Ingutsheni Hospital in Bulawayo which caters for children living with severe disability.
The initiative aims to donate adult pampers to improve the lives of the children at St Francis Home, many of whom are immobile and require special care on a daily basis.
In an interview, Mbekezeli Sibindi who is the president of the Rotaract Club NUST said that they were inspired to do the donation after realising that St Francis Home need the papers, even after they did a similar donation late last year.
“The drive was motivated by a community engagement activity done by both clubs where we donated groceries to St Francis Home. After the donation the staff there told us about some of the things that they need and we decided to do a pamper drive since we noticed that some of the patients are immobile and needed pampers on a daily basis.
“We hope that the donation will make the patients more comfortable and also make the work of the staff much easier. The drive is also part of our commitment to community service as a club,” he said.
Sibindi said their targeted goal is to collect 30 packs, with each pack containing 10 diapers and costing about US$ 10 per pack.
In addition the club also wants to donate cleaning detergents.
He also emphasised the importance of community involvement in assisting the vulnerable groups in society.
“So far, we have managed to raise money to buy 10 packs. I hope that the community can come together to not only make an impact in the lives of these children but also to stand together as communities,” said Sibindi.
