DYNAMOS coach Lloyd ‘Mablanyo’ Chigove has made a bold tactical move by deploying Vusa Ngwenya in an unfamiliar right-back role.
Ngwenya, a 20-year-old midfielder who joined DeMbare at the age of 12, has long been regarded as one of the club’s most promising talents.
Known for his technical ability and versatility, he has been part of the senior squad since the 2022 season.
However, with the team’s midfield brimming with talent, including the likes of Tanaka Shandirwa, Donald Mudadi, and Emmanuel Ziocha, Ngwenya has often found himself on the fringes of the starting line-up.
With the trio now off the DeMbare books, the expectation was that Ngwenya would be one of the regulars in midfield for the Glamour Boys.
But, MaBlanyo has been experimenting with the youngster at right back.
It’s an experiment which started during the final phase of the season last year in the wake of the absence of Emmanuel Jalai.
Ngwenya said:
“I am ready for the new season and I am hoping to get more game time than in previous seasons.
“What matters most is that if the coach believes in you, it will be up to you to give back the trust through performing well when given a chance.
“I have worked with coach Chigove for a long time and he understands my strengths very well.
“I am thinking about playing in a certain position but I am thinking of always getting myself ready when called in to represent the team.”
Ngwenya is expected to be one of the players who will enjoy a big breakthrough at the Glamour Boys this season.
DeMbare look like a weakened side after they lost a big chunk of the players, including captain Frank Makarati, who helped them win back-to-back Castle Cups in the past two years.
However, MaBlanyo, whose biggest strength is identifying young players who have the potential to become successful players, and nurturing them, has said the decision by most of his regular players will open a path for others to stand up and be counted.
DeMbare’s first test will come on Saturday when they take on champions Simba Bhora in the Castle Challenge Cup at Rufaro.
