RIGHT-BACK MacClive Phiri is became the second Highlanders player to win the Body Works Gym Bosso Player of the Month when he was awarded the June prize.
A tearful Phiri was presented with his accolade on Thursday in front of his teammates by Body Works Gym director Nathan Greenland and manager Donavan Ashborne after the team’s workout at the fitness facility.
Phiri was presented with a grocery hamper, training gear and monetary reward with Greenland stating that the award was his way of trying to motivate the Highlanders to perform even better every time they take top the field.
“You guys are the ones that make our weekends exciting, every weekend we look forward to watching you guys and we appreciate that. Keep fighting, we are watching you guys, it will get bigger and better , we are speaking to more guys to come and help out , hopefully by the end of the year we will have something great,’’ Greenland said.
The 25-year old former Tsholotsho and Ngezi Platinum Stars defender has been one of the most outstanding players for Bosso since he joined Highlanders at the beginning of the year. Phiri, a solid defender has given Highlanders coach Madinda Ndlovu good options as he can be used in attack because of his ability to deliver perfect crosses into the box from the right and also pack in some powerful shots at goal.
Goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda was the first to win the Body Works Gym Player of the Month award when he picked up the accolade in May. This was after the former Zimbabwe Warriors first choice goalkeeper kept four clean sheets and conceded three goals in the six matches that Highlanders played in May.
June was not such a good month for Highlanders who only won one of the three matches they played before the league action took a break. Bosso started off the month well with a 2-1 victory over Harare City before they suffered 1-0 defeats to Bulawayo Chiefs and FC Platinum.
