MAJESA were crowned the inaugural champions of the Marvelous Nakamba U-17 Invitational tournament at White City.
The tournament, which was played in a round robin format, saw Majesa earning a place in the semi-finals after Dynamos were disqualified for age cheating.
DeMbare, led by their former senior coach Lloyd Chigove, had been the best team in their three matches.
Majesa head coach, Eddie Shumba, says he was overwhelmed by their achievements in their first competitive tournament.
He attributed the achievement to hard work.
“We worked hard for this achievement. We have been preparing well for this tournament.
“It took us three months to prepare for this specific day.
“We don’t normally play these tournaments, it was a good platform for us to learn and develop the boys and the technical team further.
“We are happy that we have lifted the Cup in our first dance at a competitive tournament considering we don’t play in any league matches.
“This is big for us.
“We have been accused of age cheating but that wasn’t the case we brought the right age group.”
Highlanders U-17 coach, Danny Ngwenya, said it was unfortunate there was some age-cheating in the tournament which is supposed to be used for player development.
“It’s unfortunate that some teams were involved in age-cheating when we are trying to develop the game.
“It won’t work for the real juniors. I am happy for my boys who gave all they have although we didn’t win the tournament.”
