SHE is very calm, confident and intelligent. She is that player who plays a key role. She remains humble but she has achieved a lot in the world of beach volleyball.Meet Manicaland’s top-rated beach volleyball queen.

Her name is Trish Gadza. She was born 18 years ago in a family of five and is the youngest in the family.

Her career started in 2004 while doing Grade Four at Chirimutsitu Primary School in Rusape.

For her, playing beach volleyball runs in her veins as two of her brothers were great beach volleyball players.

“I just loved the sport because two of my brothers used to play it (Kudakwashe and Tendai)and I grew up watching it on television,” said the Vengere High School Upper Six student.

Gadza has featured in many beach volleyball tournaments and won several awards.

Her first award was at Marondera High School where she received two certificates, one for being the most valuable player and the other one for being the best server.

Building on this, Gadza took the sport by storm and went on to win a gold medal for being the best receiver at a tournament at St George’s College.

Gadza seemed unstoppable as she went on to win a certificate at the Nash District Tournament this year for being the best setter.

As if that was not enough, she scooped the best attacker award at provincial level.

“It takes hard work, 100 percent strength and huge mental effort to win,” she said.

Recently she won best defender at a beach volleyball tournament held at Dendera High School in Mudzi. Though her school did not do well, she showed what she is really made of.

Conway Boys and Masarakufa Girls emerged as the 2014 champions at this tournament.
