A Lupane man reportedly ran to the police station in his birthday suit after his friend thrashed him for passing a joke in bad taste.

The incident happened around 9pm at Lihlo village 3 in Lupane.

The unfortunate man, Njabulo Mathe (37) had spent the day drinking beer with his friends Vumindaba (41) and Alfred Ndlovu (36) at St-Lukes business centre.

His day turned nasty when he started to poke fun at Vumindaba. Vumindaba did not take kindly to his antics and allegedly ordered Mathe to stop his behaviour.

But the warnings fell on deaf ears.

Mathe went a gear up and made fun of Vumindaba which angered him. He then took a log and hit him thrice on the body.

Fearing for his life, Mathe took to his heels, but the pair caught up with him.

They took turns to mete instant justice on him and stripped him.

Mathe was left with no option. He ran to St Lukes police base in his birthday suit where he reported the matter.

The pair was later arrested and appeared before magistrate Ndumo Masuku facing assault charges. They pleaded guilty.

a?Your worship I admit the crime and the problem is that we were dead drunk. We acted under the influence of alcohol,a? said Vumindaba.

The magistrate remanded them in custody to 4 February for sentencing. .
