Man chucks elderly mother out of house

A BULAWAYO man chucked his elderly mother out of her house claiming it didnat belong to her but to her husband a his father.

Virginia Pedzisai (67) from Entumbane suburb endured a cold night last Thursday after her eldest son Peter Pedzisai threw her out.

Peteras reason for chucking out his mother was that the house belonged to his late father Hakushati Pedzisai who died in 2011.

Virginia poured her heart out to B Metro.

a?My biological son threw me out of the house. He said the house didnat belong to me because my name is not on the title deeds. He is now staying with his wifeas relatives there. I was told not to set foot ever,a? she said sobbing.

She and her late husband bought the house in 1979. Under colonial laws, women could not have their names on titled property such as houses.

Before her eviction, she had rented out part of the house to three tenants.

However, not a cent came her way because her son would take all the money.

a?We had three tenants and each was paying $100 but he never gave me a penny from the money,a? she said.

Her grandchild, Fanuel Mombeyarara, the son of Tryphine Pedzisai, one of her seven children gave her shelter.

a?I had to take her to my house after she spent a night in the cold. I hope the courts will resolve the matter so that she recovers her house,a? said Mombeyarara.

Virginiaas other children, namely Tryphine, Emilda, Samuel, Remijio, Kenneth and Philipha are scared of their brother Peter.

a?We tried to talk to him but he became violent and he threatened to beat us. Due to that, we had to approach the courts,a? said Samuel.

Virginia confirmed that her fate lay in the court of law.

a?I approached the courts so that I change ownership of the house to my name. They are working on the title deeds and the process is expected to be done by next week,a? she said.

Peter Pedzisai told B-Metro off.

a?I do not discuss family matters with the media vanhu vemapaper munonetsa (you people from the media are troublesome).a?
