Lovemore Chazingwa in KADOMA
A WELL-KNOWN cobbler in Rimuka, Kadoma, Louis Mugariri was struck and killed by a haulage truck on Tuesday night after having tried and failed to kill himself on two occasions earlier that day.
He was also known as Dread Chipo and was 46.
At first, he tried to kill himself by crawling under a fuel tanker which was about to off-load fuel at a service station.
Some people managed to restrain him.
Then, he tried to kill himself by crawling under a bus, which was parked at a rank in this city.
His plan was to get run over by the bus.
Some people noticed it and alerted the bus driver.
As Dread Chipo tried to run away, he was hit by a moving haulage truck.
“At the scene, he bled profusely from the nose and was pronounced dead moments later,” said a witness.
“The police came to remove the lifeless body and took it to the mortuary.”
Dread Chipo was staying at his work station at Machipisa Shopping Centre, near The Star Bar,
The tragedy unfolded barely two days after a Gweru-based police officer, Claude Jele, committed suicide.
Jele left a note which read:
“Having survived all these 38 years, I have reached a point where I feel like it’s the same being on this earth or leaving.
“So, please, do not accuse anyone or anything, it’s my personal decision to end my life this way… I have failed.”
Jele leaves behind a wife and two kids, Ganizani and Keisha.
