A HARARE man has appeared in court after he allegedly stole a vehicle belonging to his colleague, which had been left in his custody.
His friend had travelled outside the country.
Munyaradzi Mangachena was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.
The court heard that on May 23, this year, the complainant Future Bhebhe left his VW Golf in Mangachena’s custody for safekeeping as he was travelling out of the country.
He went with the keys.
Bhebhe is said to have returned home on June 15 and went to collect his vehicle only to find out that it was missing.
Mangachena didn’t give a solid answer when he was asked about the whereabouts of the car.
When he was asked how he had driven the car, he told Bhebhe that he had gone to a locksmith, who had made a duplicate key for him.
Bhebhe made inquiries and got information that Mangachena drove the car, without his authority, and got involved in an accident, which damaged the vehicle.
Mangachena didn’t disclose where he left the car, which is yet to be recovered.
The vehicle is valued at US$7000.
