Manicaland gears up for winter wheat season

Government is targeting more than 80 thousand hectares of wheat during the winter cropping season as part of efforts to reduce the import bill associated with the strategic crop.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Resettlement, Dr John Bhasera recently announced the state of preparedness for the winter wheat crop production season.

Meanwhile Chipinge agritex extension agronomist Dickson Rungano says out of the 2440 hectares targeted for wheat in the district 350 hectares have already been contracted under command wheat farming.
