Covid-19 fueling child marriages

Child neglect coupled with Covid-19 have been attributed to the increase of child marriages in societies.

Presenting an overview on the extent of child marriage, during a Plan International Youth sub regional virtual workshop to end Child Marriages held in Mutare recently , Manicaland youth representative, Zvikomborero Matsito, said failure by most parents to monitor their children has exacerbated child marriages.

She recommended the monitoring of children rescued from child marriages through the involvement of traditional leaders as well as regular awareness programs.

The workshop was attended to by five regional countries which are Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
