Manicaland shines at Danhiko

MANICALAND representatives at the just-ended Danhiko Paralympic Games did the province proud after scooping several medals.A total of 18 teams from the province participated at the games whose patron is Dr Grace Mugabe.

The games were held under the theme: “Celebrating 25 Years of Paralympic Excellency.”

Chisamba Primary School Physical Education teacher, Godfrey Ndiringepi, said Manicaland was represented by Chengetai Special School, Chisamba Primary, Mutare Teachers’ College  and secondary school, Marymount Teachers’ College, Matika Primary, St Wurburgh’s Primary and  Manzinde Primary.

He added that Elim Mission Primary, Zamba Primary School, Murambinda B Secondary, Munyoro Secondary, St Faith’s Mission Primary, Sanganai Community Club, Chipinge Club, Tsanga Lodge, Mutare Sport for Socialization, and Mutambara Primary School also constituted Manicaland representatives.

“Chisamba Primary School scooped four gold medals and one silver in athletics and came 25th position out of 126 competitors in the mentally handicapped category.

“Zamba Primary School won one gold, silver and six bronze medals and pocked $150 and a silver medal in the Five Aside soccer.

“Sangani Community Club had an outstanding performance in swimming where they won gold medals in the senior male and female categories for the hearing impaired. They walked with a prize of $250.

“Mutare Sport for Socialisation, a club made of primary school pupils aged between 10 and 14, came first in netball and received $250.

“Elim Mission was in position 17 in athletics and this was the best position that Team Manicaland reached. I want to thank all school heads and heads of institutions for financing the trip to Harare.

“I also encourage all institutions from Manicaland with physically challenged pupils to allow them to take part in such competitions since this will make them feel worthy,” said Ndiringepi.
