FC Platinum coach, Norman Mapeza, says his men will not allow themselves to be distracted by a false sense of security that the title is theirs to lose.
The champions, who are chasing a fourth league title on the bounce, opened a six-point lead after second-placed Chicken Inn succumbed to a 0-3 defeat to Dynamos at Barbourfields on Saturday.
FC Platinum went into their weekend match against ZPC Kariba with a three-point lead and their 1-0 win and Chicken Inn’s defeat saw them doubling the advantage.
Walter Musona scored the solitary goal in the 62nd minute, heading the ball home from a Donald Teguru cross, to help them consolidate their grip on the league title race.
The odds were against the Zvishavane miners when the season started after they released most of their senior players at the beginning of their rebuilding project.
“If you play games and win, you will find yourself on top of the log,” said Mapeza.
“We are just playing to win games and not focusing on the log or what will happen.
“We just want to win games and we are not putting ourselves under a lot of pressure.
“At the beginning of the season we had a goal to win as many games as possible, and I’m happy we are doing just that.”
FC Platinum have now won eight of their past nine games without goalkeeper Wallace Magalene conceding a goal.
When combined with Petros Mhari’s seven clean sheets, earlier in the season, the team has kept a total of 16 clean sheets in 23 games.
They sit on 47 points, comprising 14 wins and five draws.
They have only lost three times.
