THE annual Midlands Amateur Championship Golf Tournament roars into life today with several top amateurs taking part at Kwekwe Golf Club.
The 72-hole tournament comes just a few weeks after the Manicaland Amateur Championships at Hillside in Mutare.
David Amm will be the major drawcard in a field of over 40 golfers who are all fighting to represent the country at the upcoming All-Africa Golf Team Championships.
Amm is the leading amateur and has been doing well although he missed the Chapman Grandslam, which was won by Sean Crocker.
He bounced back to win in Manicaland.
Several players like Never Milazi, Tonderai Masunga, Tafara Mpofu, Arnold Burasho and Rasheed Mahomed are expected to take part. The amateur championships have become unpredictable.
Zimbabwe Golf Association president, Mufaro Chiwoniwoni, said they expect a tough duel.
“The season is progressing very well and Midlands Amateur Championships is one of the very competitive tournaments which everyone looks forward to.’’
