A 17-year-old Chitungwiza boy, who had sex with his 14-year-old girlfriend in front of their friends, was on Tuesday sentenced to 105 hours of community service.The boy appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Tracy Muzondo and pleaded guilty to charges of having sexual intercourse with a minor. Ms Muzondo sentenced him to five months in prison and suspended two months on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining three months were suspended on condition that the boy completes 105 hours of community service at the President’s Department offices at Makoni Shopping Centre.
Prosecutor Mr Itai Chikono told the court that on June 16 this year, the girl together with her friends and their boyfriends went to meet with the boy at his home in Seke. They were all invited into the boy’s bedroom.
While inside the room, the boy started fondling the girl’s breasts and kissing her in the presence of their friends before they had sexual intercourse.
After the act, they left the house, but kept the matter among themselves.
It only came to light when one of the girl’s friends dropped some condoms from her school bag and this raised suspicion among the school authorities who then referred the matter to the police.
