PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call that Zimbabwe is open for business seems to be bearing positive results as there was a significant boost in the influx of tourists at Victoria Falls during the Easter holiday.
Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said they were impressed by the increase of people who visited Victoria Falls especially the rainforests, as figures increased as compared to last year during the same period.
“The figures are an indication that the President’s call for Zimbabwe to be open for business is bearing fruits as there were 2 643 internationals while in 2017 they were 2 235, regionally they were 1 457 down from 977 last year and locals, they were 2 004 compared to
1 700 in 2017. Tourism is a low hanging fruit and we are happy with the increase, in fact most of our facilities were fully booked during the Easter holiday,” said Mr Farawo.
He said the recent statistics are a sign of good times in Zimbabwe and economic development.
“We are bracing for economic development and increase in tourists means more revenue for the country. We had political problems in the past and it discouraged people from coming, but with the new dispensation it seems there will be increase in traffic from other countries,” said Mr Farawo.
Since inauguration, President Mnangagwa has used every forum to accentuate that “Zimbabwe is open for business”.
