MORE than 40 chaplains graduated in Harare on Saturday.

The graduates were under the Prison Ministry International (PMI).

Five other chaplains who were ordained by PMI national director, Dr Noah Pashapa.

“We are releasing you today to go and change lives not destroy souls,” said Dr Pashapa.

“A number of men and women have been enrolling for theology and chaplainship to leave people poorer by manipulating the word of God.

“Prove yourselves different from such wolves in the sheep skin by transforming and building communities.

“Let Jesus Christ be the centre of your gospel, not money, instead use what you have to bless instead of ripping off people.

“Pray for the sick, bring sight to the blind, give hope to the marginalised people, preach good news to the poor and the year of the Lord.”

He added:

“Visit those in prisons, do not judge or condemn, bless others. Be responsible and relevant in every community, address issues to do with drug and substance abuse.

“Build marriages and provide counselling to all the people.

“We have people who are not good in terms of academics but have natural intelligence.

“Let such people take leading positions, the same as those with academic qualifications for we are both qualified by the Almighty God.”

Zimbabwe Open University director of Social Innovation and Community Service, Dr Eurita Nyamanhare, urged the graduates to further their studies so as to avoid being fooled by criminals hiding under the name of Christianity.

“Education is power, continue furthering your studies so as to deal with criminals abusing the Holy Bible verses,” said Dr Nyamanhare.

“Everyone is important before God, seek the wisdom of God and help those looked down upon by people.

“Let us follow the footsteps of our First Lady and mother by embracing those known for the oldest profession in street corners.

“She brought good news to them and found better ways of empowering them and counseling.”

PMI and Africa Counsels of Chaplains Association (AFCA) recently affiliated to the Zimbabwe Open University and their students received certificates under ZOU.
